B500. Eleven B-50Ds were convened to TB-SOD trainers. Finally. thirty six B-50Ds were stripped of all offensive and defensive weapons systems, and had meteorological equipment -Doppler radars. and air samplers installed. These aircraft flew the ' Hurricane Hunter· mission under the designation WB-500 . They were retired in 1967. The B-50 Superfonress was involved in three wars - Korea, Vietnam, and the Cold War. Several RB-50s were auached to the 9 lst Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron at Yokota during the Ko rean War flying long range recon missions to China and the Soviet Union.

Under the designation XB-44 a single B-29A was allocated to Prall & Whitney as a Oying test bed for the Prall & Whitney R-4360 engine.
